Cooking With Friends Episode 2 Out Now!
Alex Hill, creator of Cooking With Friends, is a creative, manager at Team Epiphany, foodie, and chef residing in Brooklyn, NY - home of all things cool.
Since I’m 80/20 plant based and Episode 2 was featuring a Black-Eyed Pea Burger, I couldn’t wait to try and stood behind the scenes until I could taste the burger. The meal didn’t disappoint and neither did the conversation.
What was supposed to be a short Q&A and lunch turned into an impromptu podcast.
B: Not only are you a creative yourself, but you work with creatives, inspire creatives, promote creatives, build creatives - What makes you a creative?
A: My creativity is through cooking. I started out at a super young age cooking with my mom and brother, which stuck with me. I started at 10 and my first dish was vanilla flan.
‘— and I’m half puerto-rican so i feel like my my heritage is really… important to me.”
B: At 18, you went to Hampton University.
A: I had a thought of going to culinary school, but I found myself at Hampton University.
B: Why not culinary school?
A: My parents are old school. Where I’m from you go to school, get a job in the government, and retire. Even when I got my degree in public relations, my dad asked “What is that?”
I wanted to be a chef, but it wasn’t so important. I just wanted to cook.
B: I’m happy you still found your way to cooking.
A: Cooking 👏🏾 Kept 👏🏾 Coming👏🏾 Up.
B: and You didn’t let your passion for cooking to die just because you didn’t go to culinary school — did you at school, did you cook for friends.
A: In school I cooked Mac N’ Cheese and Tacos and my Mac N’ Cheese was so good. It’s how we survived.
